The Mongol Empire (1206-1368), dominating at its height the territory from Korea to Hungary, has deepened relations between distant cultures. In my research, I will examine migrations and immigrants from Mongol Central Asia (Chaghadaid Khanate) to other polities inside and outside of the Mongol Empire, in order to understand how the empire affected its subjects and to enrich our understanding of pre-modern migrations generally. My study will combine quantitative Digital Humanities methods with qualitative methods, including creating and analyzing a database of immigrants in the Mongol period and in-depth discussion of selected case studies from the database.
