Gershom Scholem Professor in the Department of Jewish Thought at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His fields of expertise include modern Kabbalah and comparative mysticism. His monograph "The Chosen will Become Herds": Studies in Twentieth Century Kabbalah (2009) was published by Yale University Press. His third book, Shamanic Trance in Modern Kabbalah (2011) was published by the University of Chicago Press. The collection of articles, edited together with Philip Wexler, After Spirituality: Studies in Mystical Traditions, was published at Peter Lang Publishing.
His biography of Moshe Hayyim Luzzatto was published (in Hebrew) by Tel Aviv University Press. In 2012, he was a research fellow at the Tikvah Center for Law and Jewish Civilization, New York University. In 2014, He was awarded the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities' Gershom Scholem Prize for Kabbalah Research.
